The six children form a Riddle Club for the purpose of asking each other riddles during club meetings. The first 3 books were all issued simultaneously in 1924 (lists to #3 at front of book) Lists to #3 in front of book, but to #4 in ads at back of book. Glossy frontispiece and three glossly internal plates by Walter S. Rogers. 246 pp plus 6 pp of publisher's ads. Fair condition only (missing front endpaper, but otherwise a tight and straight copy with noticeable rubbing and wear to the covers).

Illustrated with color pictorial endpages and 4 colr plates by Rodgers. A reading or filler copy. G- only at best.

VERY GOOD/ DUST JACKET GOOD. 246 p., black and white frontispiece plus several full page black and white illustrations on coated paper, 6 p. of advertisements. Text is clean and unmarked. Endpapers are very slightly yellowed. Pages less so. Light blue cloth boards with red lettering on front cover, black lettering on spine. Almost no wear to covers or spine which is tight and sound. Dust jacket is full color illustration by Rogers with red lettering. It is worn and has chipping on top and bottom edges plus 1 inch tear on front bottom edge and 1/2" tears around top spine area. Inside of dust jacket has lists of other books for children by the publisher.

No mention of the following titles in the series on jacket or in lists and ads in the book. Binding sound in original pale blue cloth with title design in brown and black. Original pictorial dust jacket is toned and worn with rubbing and furring to the flap folds, chips at spine ends with jagged closed tears at base of spine and a V shaped chip from the bottom edge of the rear panel. Light silverfish scaling to a small area of the cover board and a short bit of predation to the top edge of the same board. Illustrated with frontis and 3 plates on glossy stock from work by Rogers. 2nd plate had loosened with furred edges but now replaced and soundly bound in. With faults; an increasingly hard to find title. G/G only.

The third in this charming 1920s series of children's books featuring The Flyaway family who interact with various fairy tale characters (Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Goldilocks). Alice Dale Hardy was one of the pseudonyms used by various staff wrires of the Stratemeyer Syndicate. Very uncommon in dust jacket.

"Alice Dale Hardy" was a pen name owned by the Stratemeyer Syndicate and used on two series for younger children: The Riddle Club (1924-29) and the Flyaways (1925). Multiple ghostwriters were involved in writing stories from Edward Stratemeyer's outlines. THE FLYAWAYS STORIES are about a happy family who interact with characters of fairyland in 3 adventures: The FLYAWAYS AND CINDERELLA, The Flyaways and Little Red Riding Hood, The Flyaways and Goldilocks. SCARCE in such a Good and bright dust jacket which has minor soil, rubbing, small nicks & tears, and a lengthy piece lost from the lower edge of the front panel through the dj's lower spine. SUPERIOR Cloth CONDITION: tight, bright, clean with light age-toning.

Includes illustrations. Rogers illustration on glossy stock plate; frontis and three internal plates. 6 page catalog of G&D Titles appended at rear; 12mo 7" - 7½" tall; Nicely preserved copy. Snug, bright and neat. Early issue of the second in the Riddle Club series. Original blue cloth with titles stamped in black to spine and in a combination of mustard and black to the front board. Snug binding; crisp corners and bright white page stock. Prior owner name penned neatly to the top edge of the front flyleaf. A bit of mild flecking to the cloth at the edges, presumably minimal silverfishing. Relatively minor spill stain to the spine panel of the DJ and adjoining area of the rear panel with only a mild tide mark across the spine but more noticeable pink hued offset stain to a thin area along the spine edge of the rear panel. Spill apparent to cloth at identical locations but not affecting any internals. Dust jacket is bright and crisp, white spine panel and a color illustrated cover from a painting by Walter Rogers. Aside from the mild spill stain; all else is about Fine ["Bobbsey Twins and Baby May" is the last title shown on the rear flap; "Bunny Brown at Sugarcamp" last Bunny title on rear panel].
