Rientrato a casa, raggiunse il suo studio e, come faceva abitualmente, comincià a lavorare nel pieno della notte. Firmà l'ultima versione del quarto volume della tetralogia del "Mare della fertilitÃ", apponendovi la data del 25 novembre 1970. Scrisse poi una breve frase su un foglio di carta, lasciato sulla scrivania: «La vita umana à cosà breve e io vorrei vivere per sempre».
