The text is illustrated with 31 coloured plates, also chipped in, and 118 black-and-white reproductions of other works. Blue coloured cloth covered boards with gilt embossed logo of publishing house on the front panel and gilt coloured titles to the backstrip. Colour illustrated dustwrapper, being a reproduction of "the Cypriot", 1940, with black coloured titles to the front panel and backstrip. A survey of the Australian artist William Dobell, who not only was a a painter of portraits but of other themes and genres as well. The author, who knew the artist, has given a balanced study of the artist and his work. Softening of the backstrip with fading to the extreme edges of the book.
