Book
Hardcover. Condition: VG. No Jacket. Mary Gernat (illustrator). 1st. Here is Enid Blyton writing with a difference --- not to entertain children with happy adventures, but warning about the consequences of dilinquincy and indiscipline. Her venture into serious social issues --- child behaviour, family relationships and parenting influences --- won the support of Basil Henriques, the then chairman of the Wast London Juvernile Court, who said in the forward that while it was book "primarily meant for children;" it would be "of no less interest to grown-ups." He observed that the "workings of the minds" of two boy (major characters) was "absolutely brilliant," showing how broken homes caused children to :go wrong." These characters, and others, he said, were "typical of the kind of case which is coming ever y day before the Courts." Enid Blyton's early 1950s predictions for future of youth would today be regarded as extremeny un-PC, but appears to have been prophetically accurate. First edition of 1951, 176 pages, colour art frontis by Mary Gernat and 12 b/w drawings.Green hard covers with blue spine/front titles VG, dealer stamp lower right front pastedown, small ink name on half title, text block otherwise excellent.
