Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. First Edition (1921 on title page). Original covers with bright gilt lettering on the front and spine. Clean frontispiece portrait, folding table (pages 323-324), publisher's "Notice" tipped in at the title page, two errata slips tipped in at Page 1. Ninety-eight illustrations. You don't often rate a book from 1921 Near Fine but I'm doing it here. Beginning with the covers, as mentioned, the gilt lettering is very bright, there is only very minimal and light soiling (see the photos), and the wear is minimal (a tiny spot of cloth on the middle edge is lifted up a little). The book is really solidly bound. Beautiful flower patterned end papers. Excellent pages, no writing/underlining anywhere, no markings, not creased. There is very, very, minimal soiling (a half-dozen light spots in total all on the white margins). So the overall condition of the book is superior. Unfortunately, there is no folding map at the rear of the book. I have seen this map, and I'll point out that it is simply a map of Ceylon and its provinces. Nevertheless, due entirely to its absence I have significantly discounted this rare book.
