This work features the diary of John Evelyn, an English writer, gardener, and minor government official who is best known for this diary. Evelyn's diary was extensive, spanning from 1641 to 1697 and covering many historic events such as the execution of Charles I, Oliver Cromwell's rise and death, the Great Plague of London and the Great Fire of London.
