Book First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Dustwrapper, folio, pp.128. 60 full page colour plates. Each full page plate has an adjacent page of text relaying its original publication source, artist, technique and scientific significance. The prints range from woodcuts from sixteenth century herbals through to chromolithographs of the nineteenth century. The majority are hand coloured engravings on copper of the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, and all are significant for their scientific importance and of course, great beauty. The gilt titling on the dustwrapper cover and spine has faded, and there is some light edge wear in paces. The cloth binding and contents are clean and bright, but there is a small patch of light surface rubbing to the front endpaper corner. Overall, near fine in a near VG dustwrapper. A heavy book weighing c1950g when parcelled, exceeding the 1000g default for the postage quotation, and thus costing more to post than quoted if going overseas or by first class post in the UK. This extra postage at cost will be requested at time of order or can be supplied upon request before ordering.
