Volume 1: Binding has rounded slightly with age, but remains tight and sturdy. Dark green cloth boards are clean, with straight edges and sharp corners. Crown and foot of spine have softened. Moderate sunning to spine. Gold lettering and Mariners' Museum emblem on front boards are slightly worn, but still shiny. Light scratches to back board. Small "SIGNED" sticker at foot of spine. Endpapers illustrated with a drawing of the Commencement of the Pacific Railroad at Sacramento, January 8, 1863. Pages are clean and crisp, free of handwritten notes or underlined passages. Generously illustrated in black and white with over 60 drawings and photographs of Huntington's family, railroad plans, and construction progress. Volume 2 is in same condition as Volume 1, with endpaper illustrated with a perspective map of Newport News, VA. This volume is also generously illustrated with photos and drawings of Huntington's art collections, railroad construction progress, and important figures associated with Huntington. A thorough biography of one of the Big Four of the western railroad industry, and the man responsible for the building of the Central Pacific Railroad. Signed by Author(s).
