Enchi, playwright and multi-award winning author, famous for her depiction of feminine women's inner psychological, sexual, and social difficulties and strengths, drew on her knowledge from translating THE GENJI TALE for this Noma Literary Prize winning novel infused with the Genji story and describing the demeaning plight of women in the Meiji period. SCARCE in English in such nice collectible condition. Awarded Japan's Person of Cultural Merit, and Order of Culture, few of the late Enchi's literary works have been translated to English.
