(256), Observations on the Make-up & Decoration of the Manuscript by John Plummer (266), Provenance & Binding of the Manuscript (267), Bibliography & Other Manuscripts by, or Closely Related to, the Limbourgs (268) * ABOUT THE BOOK: The "Belles Heures" of the Duke de Berry is much less well know than the "Tres Riches Heures". Painted by the 3 Limbourg Brothers just before they turned to the "Tres Riches Heures", it contains superlative qualities no longer visible in its more famous successor. For the Limbourgs, as for Monet, passing from his "Gare Saint-Lazarre" to his haystacks, growth & change entailed sacrifices. The folios are here reproduced in actual size, except for slight trimming around the outer edges. The 127 miniatures reproduced in color appear, of course, in their actual sequence in the manuscripts. The remaining 30 miniatures in the manuscript, generally less important, appear in b-&-w at the back of the book. Miniatures that face one another always preserve that relationship on the pages of this book. All folios reproduced in color retain their precise places in the manuscript, whether recto or verso. All but a few commentaries [80, 155, 218] precede or face the miniature they describe. This scrupulously prepared edition beautifully presents the "Belles Heures" in all their uniquely vibrant color and is an indispensable addition to any collection of medieval manuscripts in facsimile. * SHIPPING: MNEMOSYNE carefully wraps, labels & custom-packages this fine book for FREE domestic shipment via USPS MEDIA MAIL or USPS PRIORITY MAIL for a below-cost additional fee & via USPS FIRST CLASS INTERNATIONAL AIRMAIL to international destinations at our posted rates.
