Risen from the ashes of bankdeath, Amon Kenzaki, fallen Liquidator and Xenocyst survivor, arrives at the forest from his dreams. He has fulfilled his promise to the PhisherKing to seek truth without relent and can look upon the wonders of those green slopes with clear eyes at last. Yet now, just when his deepest aspiration can finally be fulfilled, he must balance it against the aspirations of all humanity. And he despairs to discover that his love, Mayuko Takamatsu, is still nowhere to be found. MegaGlom demigoddess, Rashana Birla, and her faithful servant, Ono X, seek Amon's help in reviving a single dream of liberation with enough facets to accommodate the dreams of all. Meanwhile, the lost secrets of financial life and death promise a kind of digital reincarnation to transcend the twin markets of the Free World, if only he can hold together a miraculous fellowship. In A Diamond Dream, final book of the Jubilee Cycle trilogy, Amon arrives at the very limits of capitalism, where he and his friends must choose which future to stake out on the other side and accept the consequences. Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book delves deep into the hidden world beneath Scranton, Pennsylvania, revealing the intricate network of coal mines that have fueled the city's growth and prosperity. Through detailed maps and meticulous research, the author unveils the historical development of these mines, from their early beginnings to the present day, highlighting the evolution of mining methods and the challenges faced by miners. The book goes beyond mere historical documentation, exploring the complex relationship between the mines and the city above. It examines the impact of mining on the environment and infrastructure, particularly the issue of surface subsidence and the potential risks it poses to buildings and residents. The author also delves into the economic and social significance of the coal industry, shedding light on its contributions to Scranton's development and the lives of its citizens. By offering a comprehensive analysis of the mining conditions under Scranton, this book raises crucial questions about sustainability, safety, and the long-term consequences of resource extraction. It serves as a valuable resource for understanding the intricate relationship between industry and community, and the challenges and opportunities that arise when a city's foundation is literally built upon a network of underground tunnels. Ultimately, the book's insights remind us that the true cost of progress often lies beneath the surface, hidden from immediate view but with lasting implications for generations to come. Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book, written by esteemed engineers William Griffith and Eli T. Conner, delves into the mining conditions beneath the populated landscape of Scranton, Pennsylvania. The study, commissioned by and in collaboration with the city council, school board, and various mining companies, assesses the risk to the city's inhabitants and infrastructure posed by the extensive coal mining operations below ground. The authors conducted thorough on-site investigations and historical research to understand the techniques and practices that have shaped the vast labyrinth of mine workings beneath the city. They have synthesized their findings and observations with meticulous detail and present clear conclusions about the potential threats to surface stability. The authors proceed to offer practical and innovative solutions to these problems, including engineered support systems for areas at greatest risk of collapse as well as long-term plans for mitigating the risks associated with future mining activities. This book provides an in-depth and authoritative account of the mining industry's impact on Scranton and serves as an essential reference for urban planners, engineers, and policymakers concerned with the safe and sustainable development of communities built upon undermined terrain. Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. Gross, Eli (illustrator). In Hebrew. 390 pages. 21 x 14.5 cm. Personal account of the war in Burma by the Commander of the 'forgotten' Fourteenth Army, and now generally recognized as one of the great military memoirs of all time. He was the Commander-in-Chief of the British forces. He was awarded the Military Cross. Field-Marshal Sir William Slim (1891-1970) led the 14th army (the Forgotten Army) in Burma during the Second World War. Known for his self-deprecating style he has been hailed as perhaps the greatest commander of the twentieth century. He became Chief of the Imperial General Staff after the war and then Governor-General of Australia. Appointed commander of the Burma Corps after the fall of Rangoon, Lord Slim dealt with lack of men, arms, air power, and intelligence information. This, the first full account of the Burma war, tells the story of the men who won victory under Sir William Slim. He describes in detail the attempts to contain the Japanese in spite of the ghastly condition of the men he led when the fall of Rangoon had completely cut off that ill-equipped army from the outside world. His account of their last bloody battle in the "Basin" at Shwegyin, as they fought their way out of Burma, is a magnificent report of one of the most desperate actions of the war. Later, as Commander of the Fourteenth Army, the author goes on to describe the Battle of Imphal-Kohima, the advance across the Chindwin, the Battle of the Irrawaddy with the simultaneous attack on Meiktila and the subsequent race for Rangoon before the monsoon bogged down troops and transport. This book ranks as one of the great records of a major campaign.
