Hardback. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. First Edition. ARTISTS AND AUTHORS AT WAR Henry Buckton. With a Foreword by David Shepherd OBE. Leo Cooper, London 1999 First Edition ISBN 0850526760 226pp Illustrated Hardback. This copy is in FINE condition in a FINE unclipped dustwrapper. A great many creative artists, in all the fields covered by that term, who have since the Second World War become household names, spent part of their early adult life in the armed forces, a fact all too often overlooked in any subsequent analysis of thier achievements. Yet anyone old enough to have served in the war will tell you that the experience left a deep and lasting impression upon him and became a major influence on his work particularly if that involved writing or the visual arts. This book is a fascinating and vivid insight into the effewct of war on art in all its forms. Ref T6.

Quarter Leather. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: No Dust Jacket. Frontis Illustration (illustrator). OLD 020174 Scarce. Quarter brown leather, with red marbled boards and decorative gilt titling on the spine. Front board is loose, rear is tight and the text block holds together nicely. The leather over the spine is torn crosswise at the midpoint of the spine but is still holding to the back board, as well as what looks to be a mended five-inch tear in the leather at the bottom of the spine. Otherwise there is the expected (light) scuffing of the leather and marbling - quite attractive in spite of this. The interior is clean for the most part, with some foxing at the very beginning and a couple of very light marginal pencil marks .
