Über private Belange und sehr ausführlich über ihre Arbeit sowie insbesondere die Schwierigkeiten, die ihr Werk zu gewärtigen hat: "Ich habe mir erlaubt vor ungefähr 3 [?] Wochen an Euer Hochwohlgeboren brieflich mit der Bitte heranzutreten [mit einem] Gesuch an den hochlöblichen Stadtrat Wien, die Ermöglichung der Herausgabe des Werkes Elisabeth Rosen durch Subskription einer Anzahl dieser Bücher für die Volks- und Bürgerschulen Wiens zu fördern [.] Es ist für mich als Geschichtsforscherin wohl sehr traurig, wenn ich zeitgemäße Romane schreiben muß wie die 'Wiener Heiratsvermittler' und 'Familie Bröselmeier' und Studien unter Heiratsvermittlern [.] machen muß, während meine für die Stadt Wien nach Jahrhunderten noch wertvollen historischen Manuskripte den Mäusen zum Opfer fallen [.]" (Br. v. 25. II. 1908). - Nach abgeschlossener Lehrerinnenausbildung seit 1869 im öffentlichen Schuldienst in Krems und Wien tätig, ehelichte Johanna Dirnböck 1874 einen Gutsbesitzer, von dem sie nach drei Jahren wieder geschieden wurde. Neben ihrem Beruf war sie schriftstellerisch tätig, arbeitete für die 'Österreichische Volkszeitung' sowie für mehrere ausländische Blätter und veröffentlichte neben Gedichtsammlungen und Erzählungen eine Reihe von Romanen, die die Vor- und Frühgeschichte Österreichs thematisieren, darunter 'Der Freithof von Ottachring' (1899). Vgl.
