Hardcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. Everett Shinn (illustrator). A Good copy of a title from "The Ten Greatest Novels Of The World" series in which ".Each novel has been designed and edited for modern reading enjoyment. In some cases Mr. Maugham has felt that abridging strengthens the stories by eliminating cumbersome dissertations." Brick red boards have crisp gilt lettering on front, but slightly dulled on spine. Slight wear to page edgings. Sunning to pages. Pages fall open between Frontis and the Title Page but both pages are still attached along the spine. From verso:"Second Printing, October, 1948" From series description:"To each novel Mr. Maugham has written a critical and biographical introduction. Each book has been newly illustrated by a noted artist, who was selected by the publishers as being particularly sympathetic to the story." Small spot on rear flyleaf. Stain to top corner inside rear boards continues on top corner of pages. Summary of the original version:"Charles Dickens' 1850 classic epic, David Copperfield, unfolds the story of David, an optimistic and hard-working lad who's orphaned in his youth. Raised initially by his brutal stepfather, who halts David's schooling and sends him to work in a factory, David eventually finds a home with his eccentric, but kind aunt, Betsey. Later in life, David trains for a career in law, but eventually becomes a writer"423 Pages, 63 Chapters.
