Hardcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. First U.S. edition bound in green cloth with gold lettering. Frontis portrait. Good condition. Damp stained at the base of the spine. Dampening to the front page has left is stiff and wrinkled. Rubs to the cornees and spine tips. Name and date inked on the front endpaper. The front hinge is cracked at the endpapers and the sewing is expose. The binding is still tight.

Paper covering to boards scuffed at edges and worn away towards top and bottom corners of front cover; yapp edges to the fore-edges of front and back boards present but broken along the edge of the boards; not clear whether the yapp edges extended along the top and bottom edges of the boards: if so, they've entirely disappeared. The front free end-paper has been torn out leaving only a stub. On the front paste-down a bookseller's ticket (The Galignani Library, Paris and Nice). Sporadic foxing; otherwise internally good - let down by the rather worn exterior.
