About the Artist Susan Beatrice Pearse was a London born artist who was best known for her gorgeous illustrations of Ameliaranne and it can be said that the real strength and the source of their lasting appeal are her charming illustrations. The text is quite limited in the books and the narrative is largely carried by the very effective and expressive illustrations. She died in 1980 aged 101. Provenance 'Ameliaranne and the Green Umbrella' is a wonderful children's book by Constance Heward first published in 1920. The eponymous heroine, whose family is very poor, goes to a party and tries to bring back all of her food; cakes, tangerines and sweets, hidden in her umbrella to feed her ailing brothers and sisters. These plates are taken from a first printing of the first book in the series of 20.

Hardcover. Condition: Fair. No Jacket. Susan Beatrice Pearse (illustrator). 5th or later Edition. The Twins & Tabiffa by Constance Heward - July reprint 1941. This charming children's story book has been well read and well loved over time. The boards are scuffed and scored with spinal damages and also a bit of staining to the front and back cover. Inside the pages are still very much readable (one page has a slight tear at the edge) and the binding is still in fair condition. There are some pages numbered in pen by the previous owner in addition to the odd word written in pen. However this is still a nice copy with a lot of character.
