Published by Catholic Truth Society of Ireland, Dublin, 1947
The second of two pamphlets written by the Irish Jesuit priest Edward Cahill circa 1934 on the dangers of Freemasonry, which Cahill characterizes as the "child of darkness." Cahill describes Masonry's anti-Christian essence, its organizational structure, its social and political policy, and its use of the Jew-controlled press and cinema to disseminate its satanic principles and ideals. Cahill founded An Ríoghacht, the League of the Kingship of Christ to advocate for Catholic social teaching within the Irish free state. It was the predecessor to Fr. Denis Fahey's Maria Duce organization. Stapled, illustrated wrappers (7" x 4 ¾"), 20 p. Light wear, near fine. Included in the bibliographic database, Singerman Bibliography of Antisemitic Texts in English (SIBA), under the title Freemasonry.

Dedication - "To the Catholics of Ireland - I present you in one cheap volume, the public letters, speeches etc which, since the year 1850, I have written and spoken in defence of the Liberties and Religion of our country. The introduction of the Ecclesiastical Titles Bill against the existance of the English Catholic Hierarchy is seen to demonstrate the deep, wide and almost universal conspiracy of the English Cabinet to annihilate Catholic liberty and to crush the Catholic faith throughout the entire continent of Europe and in America and the English Colonies. Contents: Letters to the Roman Catholic Bishops of Ireland; To the Right Honourable Lord John Russell; To the Roman Catholics of Ireland; The Catholics of Liverpool, The Citizens of Dublin; The Duke of Wellington, The Earl of Derby, Lord Palmerston, Earl of Carlisle, Irish Catholics in England, Lecture on the Social Condition of Ireland, Royal Highness Prince Albert; Attack by "The Rambler"; Protestant Clergy of Sligo etc. Hinges cracked. An ordained Roman Catholic priest, he strongly opposed the established Church of Ireland. He raised vast sums of money from the Irish diaspora that implemented his good works. This is a Very Good copy of the First American Edition, which is uncommon. Brown cloth binding, decoratively stamped, with gilt lettering on the spine. Clean text; 392 pages; with a contemporary signature on the FFEP. The text is very bright and clear, with occasional and minor spotting; pages somewhat stiff to turn. The covers are rather worn-looking,with bumped corners, but are sound. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. First American Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good Plus. No Jacket. First Edition. New York & Montreal: D. & J. Sadlier & Co., 1885. Daniel William Cahill (1796-1864), a noted Irish-American educator and lecturer. An ordained Roman Catholic, he strongly opposed the established Church of Ireland. He raised vast sums of money that implemented his good works. This is a Very Good Plus to Near Fine copy of the First American Edition, a handsome production typical in the Irish diaspora. Fancy Victorian decorative binding; brown cloth, fancy blindstampings filled with black and gilt. Large octavo in size, with a clean text; 511 pages. Light rubbing and bumping. The pages are unfoxed, but Sadlier evidently put all the production cost into the binding, not the quality of paper; it is very soft and is tanning more than expected. Still, one will purchase this volume for its attractive binding and historical importance. Laid-in is a page from another book which appears to be a bibliography of Irish history; Quercus has been unable to identify the specific original work, but must have been definitive. Bookplate on front paste-down and a modern (dated 1972) inscription on the FFEP. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. First Edition. Decorative Cloth. Very Good Plus/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
