Ein Jahr nach Kriegsende erschienen, Papier mit leichtem grünlichen Stich in Recyclingqualität. / Michaelis 1804 erschien in dem kleinen, jungen Verlag von F. Dienemann und Comp. ein merkwürdiges Buch: "Die Nachtwachen. Von Bonaventura." Niemand wußte, wer sich hinter diesem wohlklingenden Namen verbarg, und seit nun mehr als hundert Jahren hat Jahren man immer wieder die Rätsel dieses Werkes zu lösen versucht. Der Philosoph Schelling hatte unter dem Pseudonym Bonaventura im Schlegel-Tieckschen Musenalmanach für das Jahr 1802 mehrere Gedichte veröffentlicht, und so nahm man nach Erscheinen der "Nachtwachen" an, sie seien ebenfalls sein Werk. Aus einem Brief Jean Pauls an einen Freund wissen wir, daß er das Buch bald nach Erscheinen gelesen hat und von der Verfasserschaft Schellings überzeugt war. Das Urteil Jean Pauls entsprach der Auffassung seiner Zeitgenossen, und über ein Jahrhundert lang hielt man daran fest, wenn man sich auch der Unsicherheit dieser Zuschreibung immer stärker bewußt wurde."
