Gesetzt aus Fleischmann-Antiqua. Nachtwachen ist ein satirischer Roman, der August Klingemann zugeschrieben wird und 1804 in Penig bei Ferdinand Dienemann mit dem Zusatz "Von Bonaventura" erschien. Er war Teil des Journals von neuen deutschen Original Romanen, in dem unter anderem auch Sophie Brentano und Christian August Vulpius publizierten. In der Forschung galt die Autorschaft des von der Kritik sehr hochgeschätzten Romans lange Zeit als ungeklärt, bis 1987 der Fund einer Handschrift in der Universitätsbibliothek von Amsterdam den Braunschweiger Dichter und Theaterdirektor August Klingemann als Verfasser bestätigte. Der Roman gliedert sich in 16 Episoden, die als "Nachtwachen" bezeichnet werden. Unterschiedliche Textformen (Rede, Prolog, Briefwechsel, Gedicht, Essay oder Bildbeschreibung), die nicht zwingend der Handlung angehören, durchbrechen die erzählende Struktur des Textes und lassen ihn insgesamt unzusammenhängend und fragmentarisch erscheinen. Damit lehnt er sich an romantische Vorbilder wie Friedrich Schlegels Lucinde oder Clemens Brentanos Godwi an. Michael Diller (* 27. Januar 1950 in Arnstadt; ? 23. Februar 1993 bei Zella-Mehlis) war ein deutscher Maler und Grafiker. Nach einer Lehre als Schiffbauer von 1966 bis 1968 studierte Michael Diller von 1974 bis 1978 Kunsterziehung an der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. Im Anschluss an sein Studium arbeitete er zunächst kurze Zeit als Kunsterzieher, danach freiberuflich als Grafiker in Berlin. Inspiriert vom Werk des Künstlers Willem de Kooning begann er 1987 mit Malerei. 1993 starb Michael Diller an den Folgen eines Autounfalls zwischen Zella-Mehlis und Oberhof.
