Den Grundstock der abgebildeten Keramiken, Reliefs, Textilien, hölzernen und metallenen Gebilde bildeten Objekte aus dem Bestand des Budapester Ethnographischen Museums. Die anderen Stücke stammen hingegen teils aus verschiedenen Privatsammlungen, teils aus Leipziger und Warschauer Museen sowie aus dem Anthropologischen Nationalmuseum von Mexiko-Stadt. Lajos Boglars Einleitung skizziert zusammenfassend die Geschichte jener Kulturen, die sich in Mesoamerika und in der Andengegend bis zur Epoche der spanischen Conquista entwickelt hatten.
