Heavy cracking to hinges with exposed binding, causing boards to be slightly loose. Previous owner's inscription to front free endpaper. Some pencil marginalia to a few pages. Binding is slightly shaky. Boards have heavy edge wear with bumping to corners and rub wear all over. Leather peeling to spine and corners, with noticeable scuffing and scratches overall. Notable tanning to spine and edges.

A combination recreational, entertainment, and educational center is built which rivals those in more affluent parts of London. This aspect of the novel was the impetus for an actual center being built called the People's Palace.
