Boards have moderate shelf-wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Slight crushing to spine ends. Wear marks overall.

Heavy tanning to pages with heavier tanning to pastedowns and endpapers. Pencil inscriptions to front pastedown and both hinges are cracked with exposed netting. Major tanning to text block edges and cracks to guttering with exposed netting. Boards have visible rubbing and heavier bumping to corners. Fair crushing to spine ends and visible rubbing to spine. There is fraying to cloth at corners and spine ends.

Internally the book is unmarked except for a very old former owner name and address in a beautiful script.This book was written by E. Boyd Bagly who knew and loved Miss Alcock (1835-1913) herself. There was a world wide group of admirers who knew her through her many books Those admires who knew as she did, " the bliss, the pangs and the temptations of the life of the imagination." Miss Alcock was know for her novels of historical fiction dealing with religious and evangelical topics. Her best known work is The Spanish Brothers. Book is scarce and collectible.
