Soft Cover. Condition: New. Odhams 1939 - 1940. Full Colour illustrations. An assortment of Modern Wonder comics dating between Oct 21st 1939 and Feb 17th 1940. The comics are highly illustrated, informative and beautifully produced. Absolutely fantastic centre pages with cut away drawings by the best British illustrators of the age such as Patrick Nicolle and Leslie Ashwell Wood. Issues from Volume 5 also include extremely early Flash Gordon strips by Alex Raymond- the first time they were published in the UK. These 14 issues begin at #127 and end at #144. Interestingly, the name of the publication changes to 'Modern Wonders including War Pictures' at Volume 6. Some of these do show their age, having become slightly brittle, flaky or having loose covers. Modern Wonder certainly was one of the finest publications of its day and gives us an extraordinary everyday insight into the fraught and fast-moving world of the time. This pack of 14 issues presents exceptionally good value. Size: 11" x 14" (270mm x 360mm). (1).
