Upper edge of FEP is chipped and nicked. Page block and pages are lightly marked and tanned. Contents remain clear throughout. Binding is sound. HCW. Used.

The tip of a single leaf absent (no text impacted). Blank presentation plate pasted to the front free endpaper and a child's name boldly inked to a blank rear flyleaf. Quite a bright, if somewhat handled copy of quite an uncommon Ardizzone item, lacking the dust wrapper. Alderson 20.

Wonderful two and three colour illustrations throughout. On front end paper is the Surrealist bookplate of Andrew Murray. Dust wrapper is price clipped. The dust wrapper does have masking tape repairs on the verso, the masking tape being used on the top and bottom margins of the dust wrapper, which does have tears and pieces missing. The boards are worn along the lower edges and corners. There is also a little tape residue from the tape used on the dust wrapper along the spine, this has caused a vertical mark from residue on the back cover.See photograph listed. There is some discolouration on the endpaper, otherwise the book is clean and in good condition. A very acceptable copy. Size 25 x 19cm (10 x 7.5 inches) . both a fairy story and an adventure story. Fabian, Crispian and Sebastian are three brothers; Crispian is invisible through the curse of a bad tempered fairy at his christening. Old Nurse would sit down by their bedside, take her stocking-basket and, while she was threading the needle with the right coloured wool, searched her memory for a tale to fit the hole. Provenance: Andrew Murray, Director of Mayor Gallery, Cork Street, London. The Mayor Gallery exhibited Ardizzone s work in the 1960 s. Andrew Murray lent his personal collection of books and prints etc. to the travelling exhibition by Middlesbrough Museum in 1982.
