Agra summit new diplomatic initiative. 5. Indo Pak relations in the post Agra summit. 6. Indo US relations a study of the Post Cold War scenario. 7. Concluding observations. Bibliography. Index. Ever since the creation of Pakistan India's relations with the newly born state has never been cordial. From time to time efforts have been made to solve the outstanding problems/disputes affecting Indo Pak ties. But the core issue of Kashmir has since then been the main source of discord that has resulted into the three armed confrontations as well as the Kargil war. For this strained scenario the induction of sophisticated weapons in Pakistan by the US has been one of the responsible factors till the end of Cold War era. The rise of communism and the spread in Asia dominated the West in terms of the hardware weapons supply to Pakistan. But with the disintegration of the USSR terrorism has become a new phenomenon in South Asia thus causing a big hurdle in the improvement of Indo Pak relations. Though the Agra Summit took place to resolve the issues including the Kashmir one. But all earlier efforts of the NDA led Vajpayee government have gone in vain. India has once again taken the initiative to improve its ties with Pakistan (known as the people to people's contact diplomacy) in the hope to strengthening the process of peace and cooperation. The unipolar world order has warranted India to come forward. But India has decided not to resume talks with Pakistan till it stops cross border terrorism and creation of other various types of internal disturbances in India. Since the Iraq war the US does not appear to be serious about pressuring Pakistan to contain cross border terrorism without which no expectation of peace and cooperation between India and Pakistan can be visualized. The present book focuses on all kinds of twists and turns in Indo Pak relations as well as fallout of the 11 September 2001 terror attacks in the US followed by the war on Iraq under the US led coalitation forces at the cost of the UN. Our analysis is that the changing world scenario has not helped India and Pakistan to improve their ties. This is the most unfortunate development in South Asia. 347 pp.
