[Russian Literature] LEATHER-BOUND COLLECTION, First Impressions Thus. Complete in 15 volumes. Octavo (16 x 11 x 29cm). Recently re-bound in navy half calf, with raised bands, gilt titles to spines, and matching cloth over boards. Top edges gilt, others lightly trimmed. Crisp, clean copies in attractive new leather bindings. In her lifetime, Constance Garnett produced over seventy first English translations of Tchehov, Dostoyevsky, Tolstoy and several other Russian authors. She was credited by many as being responsible for introducing a whole generation of English speaking readers to the Russian modernists. Most of the works in this set are hence the first English editions.
