I state these figures because Americans do not grasp either the magnitude or the importance of this war. Perhaps the statement that over five million prisoners of war are held in the various countries will bring home to Americans the enormous mass of men engaged." (from the foreword).

Soft Cover. Condition: Near Fine. First Printing. Publisher's glossy wraps. In WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION AND TERRORISM, Brigadier General (Retired) Russell Howard and Dr. James Forest have collected original and previously published seminal articles and essays by scientists, academics, government officials, and members of the nation s security and intelligence communities. The editors and several of the authors write from practical field experience in nonproliferation and counterterrorism efforts. Others have had significant responsibility for developing government policies to address the threat of weapons of mass destruction and terrorism. The contributors include a majority of the significant names in the field including Bruce Hoffman, Brian Jenkins, Jonathan Tucker, Rohan Gunaratna, David Franz, Richard Betts, William Rosenau, and David Albright.Unit One of the book introduces key terms and addresses important strategic and policy debates. Authors explain how the new forms of terrorism affect the post-9/11 security environment and introduce the notion that weapons of mass destruction could give terrorists short-term, asymmetric attack advantages over conventional military forces. Unit Two offers detailed accounts of the characteristics, availability, and dangers of specific types of WMD, along with four case studies that associate theory with practice an important feature of this volume. Unit Three deals with past, present, and future national and international responses to and defenses against the threat of WMD terrorism. And in the final section of the volume, authors predict future WMD threats and seek to draw on past events and mistakes in order to identify lessons and strategies for the future.Appendices include a primer on bioterrorism and fact sheets on chemical, biological, nuclear and radiological terrorism. The volume shows only the slightest shelf-wear, otherwise unmarked, unread, tight, square, and clean. NEAR FINE. . Small 4to 9" - 11" tall. 598 pp.

This book, written by a former Chinese ambassador to London, is a cultured and entertaining view of the gastronomic side of Chinese life. It was written in the early 1950s by F.T. Cheng to show Westerners that there was a lot more to Chinese food culture than chop suey, and is a wonderful reminder of the richness and depth of Chinese culture from a man who also completely understood the West.

See his obituary in the Gentleman's Magazine, September 1839. B. Dulau & Co. was a firm of foreign language booksellers in Soho Square, London, founded by a Benedictine monk, Armand Bertrand Dulau, who had fled France during the revolution. 2pp, 4to. Thirty-two lines of text. In good condition, lightly aged, with stub from mounting adhering to one edge, and negligible damage at a corner. He also requests an English history of Greece, which he likewise asks Dulau to send 'avant son depart de Londres'. He concludes: 'Sir James desireroit avoir entre autres les Memoires de Louis 14. Il prie M. Dulau d'agréer les assurances de sa considération tres distinguée.'.

If I left my spectacles in the Chancery, in their case as I think I did this forenoon, will you please put them into an envelope for me?' He is 'pretty sure to be over on Sunday', and if Hope can tell him 'by what train you pass through to Salem', he will 'come down to Pride's Crossing station & receive them from your hands there.'
