Ce bi-hebdomadaire de seize pages connaît rapidement le succès. Elle contient notamment des nouvelles des plus grands auteurs de l époque comme Victor Hugo, Emile Zola, Guy de Maupassant, Gustave Flaubert, Charles Baudelaire, Théophile Gautier, Jules Michelet, Alphonse Daudet, Alexandre Dumas fils et Auguste de Villiers de L'Isle-Adam. Dans ce recueil des 44 premiers numéros de 1880 il y a des publications pré originales comme les soirées de Médan avec Boule suif de Guy de Maupassant et l attaque du Moulin d Emile Zola mais aussi l inondation ou la Fête à Coqueville par ce dernier et les femmes qui tuent et qui votent d Alexandre Dumas fils. Ce recueil contient aussi une des premières publications d un c ur simple de Gustave Flaubert, les rois en exil d Alphonse Daudet et les demoiselles de Bienfilatre d Auguste de Villiers de L'Isle-Adam. Il y a aussi en réédition des poèmes et des traductions d histoires extraordinaires d Edgard Poe par Charles Baudelaire.
