Signed directly to the half-title by Alec Hasenson. There is an additional inscription to the ffep from the Dover Harbour Board. An encyclopaedic history of Dover Harbour, from the primitive harbour, of the earliest times through its development in the seventeenth century, transport to and from, enlargement in the mid-Victorian age and international communications, and through the First and Second World Wars, up to the 1960s, with a final chapter on threats and expansion (inc the Channel Tunnel). Appendices include a list of steamships working Dover regularly from 1821 to 1976, and members and officials of some selected Harbour Boards 1606 to 1979. The books is illustrated with maps, plans and photographs.
