From the Preface: "In preparing these pages it was my purpose to relate, in a simple manner, the wanderings of my earlier years, embracing my life in the army, and especially my experience on the rolling deep. While these scenes are faithfully depicted, I have aimed to bring out the more important part of my work, - the spiritual applications drawn from that which I witnessed or experienced." Condition: Clean covers and spine. Small cloth tears at the cover corners. Tight binding with no cracks and no loose pages. The pages are lightly age-toned and clean - they nearly appear unread with no notable issues found. Overall the book is in Very Good+ condition.

Hardcover. Condition: Good. 1st Edition. 400 p. + Frontis. Woodcut text illustrations. 12mo. Original full cloth binding. Ownership of J. R. Brumbaugh. Early in the Civil War George Zollers served in the 7th Pennsylvania Regiment. Upon his discharge in 1863, he shipped-out on the whaler Oriole of New Bedford, on a cruise to the Pacific and Arctic Oceans. He gives wonderful accounts of visits to: Hawaii, Africa; Cape Verde Islands; Marguerita Bay on the southern California coast; and the Arctic. In the Arctic, the Oriole successfully evaded the Confederate raider Shenandoah. Upon his return from his cruise in 1866, Zollers turned his full attention to affairs of the spirit and the church. The bulk of the book though is about his whaling voyage. Actually, a remarkable little work Forster 108; Smith, American Travellers Abroad, Z2a (giving the author's name as "Zoller".) Not in Howes, Jenkins, nor Cowan. A very nice example of the First Edition. SACRCE. **PRICE JUST REDUCED! W145 Language: eng.
