Nicking and fraying to cloth at corner tips and top and bottom of spine with a bit of the underlying boards exposed at the corner tips. Quarter sized stain on back cover and light overall rubbing, soiling and scuffing to covers as well. Binding tight. Rear paste down has a thin slit running from the bottom edge to the middle of the spine. Light spotting and staining to edges of text block. Pages are lightly aged with occasional light spotting but are otherwise unmarked. NOT Ex-library. Nice frontis-piece illustration by C.H. Tafts with protective tissue. [From contemporary review in "the Living Age", 1915 ] . . . "Mary Moreland" depicts the struggles that an attractive girl must undergo in order to maintain her honor while working among men, but her life also clearly shows the other side of the question, that without struggle there can be no attainment. Mary Moreland is a capable stenographer and a lovely, high minded girl. Her accidental escape from sin makes her tolerant of the sins of others, her self-sacrifice gives her greatness.
