Hardcover. Condition: Poor. Pp [8] (adverts, title and dedication) 2 (preface) 285 [1] (blank) [4](adverts). Bound in publisher's red cloth with black titles. Cloth is faded, worn and marked and in very poor condition. Contents are clean but a bit loose, and one leaf has become detached with consequent wear to the fore and bottom edges. The book needs rebinding and would then make a very acceptable copy. The preface is by T G Pike, editor and proprietor of the Morning Post, in which paper the sketches first appeared. The book is a lively and very readable account of life in India at the time. Very scarce indeed; only the BL copy on Copac.
