An admittedly worn but still complete and splendidly illustrated 1832 tour of Italy, featuring 25 dramatic and detailed plates of Italian land- and city-scapes, engraved from drawings by J. D. Harding. 8" X 5 1/4". ii, [ii], 286pp, [ii], plus 7 pages of ads. Bound in full green morocco leather over boards, sunned to brown, bordered in blind to both boards and lettered in gilt to spine. Rather heavy wear to binding, with corners bumped and rubbed to boards, scattered rubbing and scratching, and hard rubbing to edges, with boards bared in places. All edges gilt. Both inner hinges exposed at flyleaf, and some gatherings proud. Binding remains quite firm and sound. Pencilled note to verso of front free endpaper and pencilled name to rear free. Binder's ticket of F. Westley of Friar Street to rear pastedown. Lacking tissue-guard to frontispiece; all other tissue-guards present. Illustrated in 25 dramatic and detailed plates of Italian land- and city-scapes, engraved from drawings by J. D. Harding.

Text is clean and free of marks. Binding tight and solid. Thomas Roscoe (Liverpool 23 June 1791 24 September 1871 London) was an English author and translator. The fifth son of William Roscoe, he was born at Toxteth Park, Liverpool in 1791, and educated by Dr. W. Shepherd and by Mr. Lloyd, a private tutor. Soon after his father's financial troubles in 1816, which led to bankruptcy, Roscoe began to write in local magazines and journals, and he continued to follow literature as a profession. He died at age 80, on 24 September 1871, at Acacia Road, St. John's Wood, London. E-52; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 287 pages.
