Dust Jacket Condition: Good. 1st Edition. 256 pages + 16 pages of photos showing the slums of Manchester, newly built up Wythenshawe, to Chicago, LA and other European cities building improvements, also includes 5 tables of studies for controlled rents, etc, Blue cloth a little fading along top edge and tip of spine, the wrapper is dusty with ingrained dust, and a a couple of chips with tiny loss, inscription on ffep dated 1945. Contents on economy war-time paper very good. *Mancunian and once Mayor in 1921-2, social reformer and the man mainly responsible for the slum clearances in Manchester. He bought Wythenshawe Hall and donated the Hall and Land to the city council who built the largest housing complex in the city in the 1950's-60's. He died in 1960. *Most of the projects and ideology has now died with the watered down ersatz socialism we have today. The vision has gone and the worn down or privately owned houses are now all that remains of those heady post-war ideals of Bevin, Attlee, Shinwell, Braddock, etc.
