The author, most renowned of Rhodesia's big game hunters, arrived in Matabeleland in 1872, some 18 years before the Pioneer Column for which he acted as guide. He travelled widely across the region, from thr Transvaal, across the Zambezi to the Kaufe in Zambia, and from the edge of the Kalahari to the Mocambique coast. as he explored, he mapped the territory, studied the African tribes, observed the flora and fauna, met with other travellers, hunters, prospectors and missionaries. Sgainst this rich background he has painted a colourful and impressive canvas. A very good hardback in tan boards with gilt embellishments, having some rubbed edges, signs of shelf wear, tiny nick to the first introduction page and minute mark to inside cover. Dustjacket is very good, but with signs of shelf wear.
