Half black cloth over boards, 210p., index, color frontis, 12 color, 102 b.w. photos, full German and English text side by side on each page, appendix, explanation of the photos. * * FIRST & ONLY EDITION * * Perhaps the best single resource on early Shinto, before it was corrupted by the modern world and times. A competetor to Buddhism, and sometimes a mix of both religions pervaded an earlier time in Japan. This work collects and explains the scattered mission reports of the time. Some of this study is based on the Society of Jesus and also the "Carta de Japao," Evora 1598. Prof. K. Florenz also contributed to the under- standing as well, other native Japanese works were also con- sulted to bring in a total picture: Kojiki, Nihongi & the Kogushui. From the table of contents, it lists: the mytholo- gical period of Shinto, the Shinto-gods of historical times, god of Ryobu Shinto, deification of nature in Shintoism, ve- neration of the Mikado, and Shinto ethics or the Five Comm- andments of the Kami. Loaded with excellent photos of Shinto rites and customs, costume, temple architecture &c. By and large a most superb and comprehensive study of Shinto. Color scans can be sent by email.
