Sound enough to be useful, and free of markings. Find a lengthy consideration of W.B. Yeats' prideful anti-politics.- A James Hanley story. A disappointed review of Chaplin's film Modern Times (at least it got banned in Germany). More poets than usual; the change in editorship may have unleashed verse, find John Lehmann and Valentine Ackland.

Hard Cover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Fair. First Edition. Dust jacket unclipped, chunks missing to edges. Original blue cloth with bright gilt titling. No ownership marks. 92 pages clean andtight. The Times Literary Supplement, in a recent leading article on 'Poetry between the Wars', named Edgell Rickword as one of the poets of that period who ought to be reprinted. The present volume contains all the poems that Mr. Rickword wishes to republish. These poems astonish the reader by their subtle wit and peculiar imagery and by the musical handling of the verse. Whilst almost all of his contemporaries sought their inspiration in the countryside, some of Mr. Rickword's most striking poems are derived from the experiences of urban civilisation, the great cities which are full of strange contrasts of satiety and frustration. Some of these poems are evocations of certain spiritual moods induced by contemplating the disintegration of social values; they have a salutary astringency which is a stimulating challenge to orthodox complacency. Size: 8vo.
