Condition: Fair. 1914. 491 pages. No dust jacket. This is an ex-Library book. Black cloth with gilt lettering. Ex-Library copy, with expected inserts and inscriptions. Rough cut pages are moderately tanned and thumbed at the edges, creased corners and foxing. Hinges and guttering are cracked. Binding is loose. Boards are a little rub worn with slight shelf wear to corners, spine and edges. Corners are a little bumped. Spine ends are a mildly crushed, with small splits and chips. Tanning to spine and edges. Boards are bowed. Book has a forward lean. Water marks to boards and spine.

Title has been handwritten on the spine. Spotty stains on spine and front cover. The hinges were cracking, but have been repaired. Label on spine; bookplate, call number, stamps, and card pocket inside. Scattered pencil marginalia, but most text clean. Binding is cockeyed, but tight enough for normal handling. Very scarce anthology of letters, legal documents, and other writings that chronicle the persecution of Catholic priests in Ireland during the 17th and 18th centuries.

Ink inscription on a front endpaper. Ink marginalia p. 5 as well as pencil signature of James Reaney, Canadian historian and playwright, a former owner. Canon William Burke's history has long been recognized as the definitive work on the town of Clonmel. The book tells the history of the town from the medieval foundation through to the start of the 20th century. Generally known as Burke's History, surviving 1907 copies have become rare collector items.
