In 1972, the Pictou Heritage Society, with the aid of Federal funding, conducted a survey of the town's buildings surviving since the 19'th century. 140 were identified and 55 are reproduced here in `sketch' form. The drawings (b/w) are SUPERB !! Where exterior detail was believed significant, it TOO is sketched; as are important internal features - NOTE (e.g.) the plate-warmer on page 26. Volume is UNpaginated but there is one `dwelling' per every 2 pages - the other being a short historical note as to the house's provenance or current owner. Cond: White stiff paper boards in white plastic coil. Clean and tight in binding. Some MINOR edge and corner wear but NONE sig. Cover drawing is of a Pictou street. No names nor marks. Neither creases, tears, nor folds. List of ALL surveyed houses at back. Quote (last page) : " In 1874, this building was erected on a site known as Windmill Point, a name given to this projection because one of the first windmills in Pictou County had been . ." In 1972 a survey was conducted to assess the historic architecture of the town of Pictou. Entire 19th century neighborhoods have been preserved. 140 buildings were researched and 55 drawn for publication.

Detailed smaller sketches of artifacts that would have accompanied the dwellings are also included - NOTE (e.g.) the bracket sconce and the HORSE-DRAWN hearse at the back. Intro in both Gaelic and English. Volume has 76 pages total, with a MAP of the area of Nova Scotia included - on the back cover. A short historical note for each building occuppies the last 20 pages.
