Blue stamped boards titled in dark blue on cover and gilt on the spine.Cover has very slight shelfwear, softened spine ends. Gilt on spine still bright. Somes spots on page edges. Name on front paste down, otherwise pages are clean and unmarked, slightly toned. Binding is tight. Hinges are perfect. Very nice copy. Thirty lovely full-page plates and a sketch drawing of the English Lake District.

Illustrated with seventy five plates in colour from watercolours. Second edition. Alfred Heaton Cooper (1863 - 1929) is a highly acclaimed Victorian artist. He has become one of the most venerated of the Victorian landscape artist's, renowned for his Lakeland landscapes. Apart from his watercolours of the Lake District, and scenes of Norwegian fjords, Cooper also provided illustrations for many travel guidebooks published by Adam and Charles Black. Previous owner's ink inscription to front free endpaper and modern bookplate to front pastedown. In a cloth binding. Externally, generally sound but with wear to extremities, rubbing, marks, fading and stains to boards and slight cockling to cloth. Front hinge tender. Internally, generally firmly bound although strained in places. Bright and generally clean throughout but with spotting to endpapers, the odd spot and very slight handling mark to pages. Good Only. book.
