Binding remains firm. Boards have moderate edge-wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Minor splits to spine. Gilt lettering is bright and clear. Visible wear marks to boards.

Pages have light tanning and foxing throughout. Heavier to endpapers and pastedowns. Previous owner's inscription and embossed stamp to front free endpaper. Water staining to page edges throughout, text remains unaffected. Boards have moderate shelf-wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Light sunning to spine and edges with crushing to spine ends. Staining overall.

August 3rd 1886". The author was sometime Bishop of Montreal. This volume from the same Pitt family provenence as our ABE Listings: # 005200, # 005201, # 005202 & # 005203. Item # 005201 of particular interest: "Lord Minto" by John Buchan. [In May 1869, the author Oxenden was elected bishop of Montreal and Metropolitan of Canada by the Canadian provincial synod. He was consecrated in Westminster Abbey on 1 August, and installed in Christ Church Cathedral, Montreal on 5 September].

Boards have minor corner bumping and edgewear with mild tanning and scuffing overall. Spine has noticeably heavier tanning with soft crushing to ends. Lettering remains bright and clear. Book has a slight forward lean.
