Pages and plates have light tanning and foxing throughout, heavier to first few pages. Markings to some pages. Previous owner's inscriptions to front free endpaper and pastedown. Boards have moderate shelf-wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Light sunning to spine and edges with crushing to spine ends. Staining to front board. Boards are slightly warped.

First edition of one of A & C Black's 6/- series of books, this copy being one of those in fawn cloth, teg, with gilt dec to the spine only (the blue cloth version has gilt dec to the front cover also). The print run, covering both fawn and blue covers was 3,000 and was not reprinted. There are 24 full page colour illustration and this copy has duplicates at pages 102 and 116; a couple are loose. There is a gilt dec 'shield' to the rear cover - a slightly later addition - with the motif ' Schola Grammaticalis Jesu Christi de Tideswell'. It has been well used, not the best copy you'll ever see but not too bad either. A tight copy.
