Hardcover. Condition: Fair to Good. A nice old copy but the outer hinges are weak and or probably reglued. The corners and outer edges are worn through but that is probably a reflection on the binding rather than abuse. Inside hinges are sound and the book is rather tight with sewn binding. Frontice engraving of author and another of Highwickam and All Saints church in Hastings. 298 pages of rambling thoughts, some religious and some just observational on life in the early 1800's. No Date in the book but appears 1840-50 to me?.
Hardcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. 214 page hardcover - 1846 hardcover, a title in Carters Cabinet Library Second Series. Ex-library copy , but with minimal markings - only a small library name stamp on title page. Good condition, but fragile. Period stamped binding with title and floral design in gold on spine. Interior is unmarked, tight and clean.

He would write 46 tracts under this name, aimed at persuading children into Christian habits and morals, and it is as "Old Humphrey" that he is best remembered.
