Paperback. Condition: Very Good. First edition. An original lithographic poster printed by Mourlot. Initialled and marked 'épreuve d'artiste' in pencil by Michaelis. 675x500mm. One of a small number on Arches, with deckle-edges. Light handling creases. Cecil Michaelis was the son of Sir Max Michaelis, the Randlord and donor of the Michaelis collection, currently housed in the Old Townhouse, Cape Town. He studied at the Ruskin School of Art at Oxford and then left for Paris in 1932, there he was pupil to Henri Dimier and Othon Friesz and was then further encouraged by Georges Rouault and Andre Derain.Cecil will be remembered as an artist who was particulaly inventive with his artistic technique, be that in painting, ceramics or design. He was also a generous philanthropist encouraging arts, crafts and design. He exhihibited his work widely from 1940 to 1980 in Paris, New York and London.
