First American Edition. 1st US edition hardcover in navy cloth covered boards with bright gilt image of man in tails and top hat jumping a three bar post and rail on frt cover and bright gilt title on somewhat darkened backstrip. Color is really navy, not royal blue as the camera flash makes it seem. Corners bumped and rubbed, cloth on both ends of spine is tatty with a 1/2" closed tear at head. Super rare dust wrapper from the Methuen first UK edition of the same year is professionally reproduced, has a somewhat darkened spine but is complete, displays well in new mylar and will keep this volume in protected shape going forward. 207 pp text is crisp and unmarked save for foxing on both endpprs, frt hinge paper cracked but holding fine, and a personal sporting library embossed name (no ink) at foot of foxed fep, else crisp and unmarked. Book is profusely illustrated with 44 smaller pen & ink line drawings and a glossy, tissue-guarded full color frontis portrait of the author. Some of Koch's drawings are based on "Examples of the Viennese High School in the Seventeenth Century". A solid instruction book on basic horse care, basic veterinary care, various types of riding, equipment used, fox hunting, side-saddle riding for ladies, the forward seat for men and much more.

A very useful book on schooling the horse & the rider, bound in blue cloth with gilt titles on the spine & gilt horse & rider jumping a fence on the front board , the same board has been bitten by a dog two small holes going through ten pages on the very edge not effecting text. Book is fairly scarce . 207pp.

First published 1935, this is the 2nd printing of 1936. 55pp crisp, tight and bright. Unclipped cream background dust wrapper with burgundy/brown lettering has mini chips at tips and spine ends, is age-toned and moderately soiled but still displays well in new mylar. Not a book of details and countless difficult exercises, this is a simple and fun method of teaching newbies to ride.
