Atwood and from original photographs, and 25 vignettes." Publisher's ribbed cloth with gilt and stamped titling and decoration. VERY GOOD. McLEAN, Sally Pratt. Autograph Letter Signed. Two pages on separate sheets of white, lined paper; dated Simsbury, Conn., Sept. 24, 1883. To author Mary Virginia Terhune, better known as Marion Harland. "My dear Mrs. Terhune, My letter was faulty in its expression or punctuation. I did not ask for more space believe me but rather for light on that already given. You said the affair is to be a church festival and I know that you are the pastor's wife. Thank you very much for the invitation. I should like to go to Springfield [Massachusetts] on the occasion. I hope I may. It occurred to me you might have some suggestion to give as to what would be most appropriate and acceptable for the [sheet?] & might suggest some subject, as I didn't exactly understand. Very truly yours, S. Pratt McLean." Terhune's husband, Edward Payson Terhune, was a Presbyterian minister in New Jersey. Their son is noted dog-story writer Albert Payson Terhune. McLean wrote "Cape Cod Folks," published in 1881. The book, which went through eleven printings in the first year, brought about a number of law suits because the author used real names in the novel. Minor mounting traces on verso. $125.00.
