Original cloth boards. Page dimensions: 168 x 105mm. Maunsell (1810-1894) was the Archdeacon of Waikato and an important early translator of the Bible into Te Reo Maori. The first edition of his grammar was issued in four parts in the years 1842-1843. "Freed from the influence of the Northern District (which controlled mission printing and translation) Maunsell took tentative steps at reforming Maori orthography and adopting (in preference to the northern Ngapuhi dialect) the conventions of the Waikato dialect." - BIM, page 106.
