Hardcover. Condition: Fair. First Edition. Color Illustrations; Large 8vo 9" - 10" tall; 36 pages; [1911] Blackie & Son : Dodge Publishing. HC in original pictorial paper covered boards. 1st edition presumed. Paper over spine perished and lacking; boards toned and lightly soiled. Boards hanging on but tenuously attached. Front endpaper missing. First page of the story has a long tear that was tape mended by the prior owner and the following page has a large piece reattached to the front corner with the same tap. About 5 to 6 leaves with corners chipped or short closed edge tears. Each page features bordered text in the bottom 1/4 of the page and 3/4 top a color illustration by Pope. Really a breaker or a careful reading copy only. Fair at best.

Green Cloth Boards and Spine. Condition: Good. Angusine MacGregor (illustrator). Not dated but c1910, (48pp), very attractive full-page colour illustrations, illustrated brown endpapers, a little browned with age, some spotting which apears to affect just mostly just the text pages althought the first few illustrations have light spotting, Bicester Infants School prize inscription dated Christmas 1913 to half title, green hessian boards have faded to a brown colour, green cloth spine, illustrated title pasted to upper board, corners rubbed and worn. Very attractive illustrations. Size: 8vo. Children's Illustrated.

Hard back binding in publisher's original thick board covers, hand stitched blue cloth spine, illustrated end papers. Quarto 10'' x 7¼''. Contains 24 superb full-page colour plates with story line text opposite. This edition is the large format which precedes the smaller format chequer board style covers produced by Blackie in the 1920's. Sadly the picture covers have been removed from the outside of the book, the colour plates and text are clean and complete. Member of the P.B.F.A. CHILDREN'S & JUVENILE.

In very good condition with very good dustwrapper (DW edges rubbed, some small tears to edges and corners, slightly darkened, in protective sleeve.) Corners a little bumped, ends of spine chiped, some minor rubbing to edges of cover else clean and bright.
