Condition: Good -. 1 color comic strip panel on card stock with a faux wood-grain on the reverse (23 x 40 cm.). A Sunday comic strip by Frank Ladendorf (1860-1943) about the humorous goings on in fictional Posey County ran in the New York World newspaper from 1 Aug. 1897 to 15 March 1898. This cartoon was the first one, appearing on 1 Aug. 1897 and captioned "An Important Prize Fight Up at the Posey County Athletic Club." The artist's name appeared in the lower right-hand corner, which is lacking here. No other text is lacking. Ladendorf was an important contributor to the development of American newspaper comic strips in the late 19th century. This is not removed from a newspaper; it appears to have been printed on card stock to have been issued as an individual item. In Good Condition: the card stock has darkened and is brittle; chipping along edges; lacking lower right-hand corner and lesser amount at other corners; 1 vertical crack through the center; several lesser cracks.
