Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Book Club (BCE/BOMC). Type: Hardback Hardcover BCE Book and Jacket in Very Good Condition. First published in the US by the Walker Co in 1972. Golden brown cloth binding with sharp and bright gilt titles on spine. Very clean and unmarked, spine head and heel slightly compressed; cloth scuffed on lower rear panel, a half inch. No other edge wear. Tight and solid, square with sharp corners. Pages rough cut, clean and unmarked-very nice condition. Brown and gray jacket is clean, rubbed, light wear to extremities with spine head chipped. The First World War, 1914-1918, resulted in the death of nine million soldiers and thirteen million civilians. This work first details the military side of the war: beginning with the German strategy for defeating France, The Schlieffen Plan; the Battle of the Marne, which nullified that plan; the war on the Eastern front; the Battle of Verdun; the Dardanelles Campaign; Itlay's mountain warfare; the Arab revolt in the desert; and the air combat with special emphasis on Captain von Richtohfen. The second section focuses on general attitudes toward the war, including the horrors of trench life and the miseries endured by civilians on the home front; and the mutiny which flared in the French Army in 1917. The last section deals with America's involvement, Russia's abandonment of the war, and the disputes over the Treaty of Versailles. Includes firsthand documents. 341 pages with Bibliography and Index. 8.75 x 6 inches. Walker and Co., New York, 1972.
